Visit of Twyfelfontein, Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes
Today it was not such a long drive, only 2 hours. We were set to visit Twyfelfontein, the burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes. Twyfelfontein is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with one of the biggest concentrations of rock engravings on the African continent. The engravings represent animals, humans as well as their footprints and were meant to be an exchange of information.
Good to know, the site can only be visited with a guide (which is understandable) and it is not flat so a bit of climbing is needed. Depending on the time of the day, it can be very hot without a lot of shelter (this was the case when we visited and it was not easy).
We were surprised to find rock engravings of penguins next to giraffes, ostriches, elephants,… a bit weird when you consider the location, but who knows what the situation was so many years ago. All in all we did not regret having stopped here for a visit.
Next short stops were the Petrified Trees, the Organ Pipes and the Burned Mountain.
Mowani Mountain Camp, the ultimate retreat
We had booked a room at the Mowani Mountain Camp and oh my god, this was one of the most stunning accommodations we had ever had on our trips. And the cherry on the cake ? We received an upgrade to the luxury mountain suite with separate living room, inside bathroom as well as an outside shower and a bathtub on the balcony with views that you can only dream of! We only regretted not having booked more nights here…
On top of that, also the dinner was excellent and very refined which we had not expected at all being in the middle of nowhere.
Could our trip get any better ?
