We slept in so the MacRitchie trail hike would be for another day because 2 to 3 hours of walking in the bright sun was not really recommended. We decided to visit Fort Canning, Clarke Quay and the National Gallery instead. The park at Fort Canning was very beautiful and all in all very quiet, even though it seemed to be a favourite picnic spot. It was very hot but we managed to complete the walk around the park.

After an hour, we decided to descend to the nightlife area to see if it would be a good idea to return here for dinner one evening … and indeed, even though it was still very calm (too hot), the atmosphere looked great, so we had put it on the agenda.

We then walked to the other side of the water and found a Mexican bar. It was happy hour. I was a bit hungry and ordered some tacos, Koen opted for the frozen margaritas :-).

National Gallery

In the afternoon, we spent most of our time in the air conditioned National Gallery, a museum split between the “court” and “city hall”. We were lucky because it had just been the national day last week and therefore the entrance fee was at 50%. The exhibitions of 2 painters were very beautiful, the rest was ok. At the end of our visit, we went up to the 6th floor, from where we had a nice view of the city!

We decided to hike back to Kampong Glam in the evening. It was 20 minutes from the hotel. The atmosphere was already super in broad daylight so we expected a lot of the evening. And indeed, a lot of people were on the move! Live music was played in and around Haji lane with its trendy cafes and bars. We decided to order a nice meze and kofta in a Lebanese restaurant. The food was really very tasty.
