Visit to the mall and Dubai Frame
The end of the journey is already in sight. Tomorrow would be our last day… I always start to feel a bit sad when the end is approaching, but that’s life, so we can start planning new adventures.
We went back to the Dubai Mall for breakfast. Maxine and myself had decided on an Arabic breakfast (shakshuka) and Koen took the pancakes with blueberries (very unusual !).
Then we did a little shopping and before returning to the hotel for a swim, we passed by the Dubai frame which was actually more fun than expected!
Afternoon dune safari
In the afternoon and evening we had planned a Safari with BBQ in the desert. We were picked up at the hotel and then brought to a meeting point where the air in the tires of the jeeps was adjusted for the driving in the sand. All jeeps then drove in convoy through the dunes.
At the meeting point it seemed that one couple in our jeep was not happy with the smell in the car and asked to change the car… for us there was not really anything wrong with the car, but we had the idea that the driver was sweating a lot and that the smell came from there. We could have lived with it… However, the tour operator decided to exchange the car but this was only possible for the return to the hotel. Due to that issue, we had lost quite some time which was a pity.
The dune ride was in my opinion accessible to most people (unless you had a physical condition that would not allow it), it was not scary at all. We stopped for the sunset in the dunes with great photo opportunities and then we drove to the place where the BBQ was organised for all the jeeps that were participating in the safari (and there were many). However, it was all quite well organised so it did not feel too crowded for us.
Before and after dinner, we had some activities in which everyone could participate: a very short tour with the camels (just long enough to take a picture), sand boarding, henna painting, photo with a falcon, belly dance, fire spectacle and photos in Arabic outfit. It was a well-filled program.
BBQ in the desert
The food had been organised in buffet format and there was more than enough for everyone. You could even return for seconds or more. More important, we found that there was ample choice and that the dishes were very tasty!
We can honestly say that we were very pleased with this activity that took almost 6.5 hours. We had booked it via Arabian Adventures.
Again we had been very pleased with the wonderful day. It was going to be so hard to return to the normal daily life in a few days :-).
