The last stop on our journey was the Waterberg Plateau. We visited the Cheetah Conservation Fund that was not that far from our accommodation. This excursion was certainly one of the highlights of our trip. The fund tries to save the big cats as well as their ecosystem. Cheetahs are very beautiful and elegant animals but we did not manage to see them in the Etosha National Park.
We did a guided tour and spent some time at the cheetah museum. We also saw the feeding of the resident cheetahs during our visit. Those animals can not be released back into nature. More information about the fund and the activities that they organise can be found on the website of the organisation.
We had booked 1 night in the Frans Indongo Lodge (Otjiwarongo) and participated in their afternoon game drive activity. The accommodation was very good and is certainly recommended. But the game drive was less interesting compared to all the others that we did until then. We did not see that many animals so that had turned down our enthusiasm. The reason for it was probably due to all the spectacular sightings we already experienced the previous days. But of course we had been spoiled our entire holiday!
End of our journey
The day after we drove back to Windhoek, returned the car and we flew back via Johannesburg and London to Brussels. On the plane we already talked about returning to this wonderful country. We would then spent much more time in Etosha since we now got only a little flavour. We would certainly try out other camps in the park so we could also experience the waterholes in the evening. All in all, one of the best trips ever !
