MONA, the museum
The MONA museum, founded by David Walsh, is located in the Moorilla winery. You can find here ancient, modern and contemporary art. The museum is unique and set up in a way that you really experience the art, outside as well as inside the building. The latter is also a masterpiece of architecture. Expect the unexpected I would say… The exhibitions are from time to time a bit provocative, but it is done in such a funny way that it is really enjoyable. I have to say that I am more a nature person, but for this museum I traveled the world…
A Belgian link
One of the master pieces in my opinion, that contains a lot of humour, is the ‘Cloaca’ from a Belgian artist, Wim Delvoye. The system reproduces the digestive system from receiving the food until the production of faeces. If you are lucky and you arrive at the right moment you can experience the feeding as well as the excreting of the faeces (with the smell).
There were other art pieces form Wim Delvoye that were really beautifully conceived, the Flat Bed Truck, Trailer and Cement Truck and then the Chapel which was one of my favourites. In addition, there was Tim, a man whose back had been used as a canvas for a tattoo from Wim Delvoye. The tattoo will be removed after his dead.
Another art piece that I liked a lot was the bit.fall from Julius Popp. It are words falling down from a waterfall.
In any case, there are so many things to experience in this museum besides fantastic pieces of art that you will not have a dull moment.
Faro at MONA
At lunch we went to the Faro restaurant and I can only recommend it. The food was delicious and the setting was stunning. It was by far the best dining experience that we had during our entire trip. At the time that we visited, there were some construction works going on outside so it was not easy to find the restaurant.
All in all a wonderful visit !
