Background of our trip
The well-deserved vacation was approaching fast and we had started the countdown. This time we were going to Indonesia for a 2 weeks visit of Bali and the kids were going to join us. There were many things to celebrate: the graduation of Maxine, we were married for 2 years and my birthday.
While planning the holiday, we did not yet know so much about the Island except that many tourists were going there for a beach holiday. The latter was not immediately our cup of tea. We always prefer to travel around and discover different area’s but of course some days at the beach are also appreciated.
We searched for a travel agent that was specialised in Indonesia to book the round trip that we designed (i.e. flights, hotels and transfers). For some of the days, when we were located in more rural area’s, we had also reserved a driver so it would give us flexibility to travel around at our own pace.
One thing was going to be difficult though, i.e. following the World Cup, the Belgian Red Devils were playing. It would already be perfect if our hotels would have a TV channel on which we could follow the soccer. However, a match at 8pm in Belgium would be broadcasted at 2am at night in Bali…
Itinerary of our 2 weeks in Bali Trip
After reading different blogs, the Tripadvisor forum and itineraries from different tour operators, we ended up with the following circuit: Ubud, Belayu, Munduk, Lovina and Sanur. We were flying with Cathay via Hong Kong to Denpasar. The first flight was very long, more or less 11h30 and the next one 5 hours… But ok, this was a consequence of wanting to see the world…
Our flight to Hong Kong was in the end not too bad since we all had 3 seats for 2 persons, so a bit more comfort than usual. The food on the plane was quite nice, one of the better meals eaten on a flight ! In Hong Kong we had to wait for 3.5 hours. It was the first time that we landed at that airport so we did not mind to spend some time to walk around the terminals and browse through the many shops. Instead of a cup of coffee, I decided on a mango frappé before boarding the next plane and it was delicious…
Time passed by quickly, we boarded the plane for Bali and 5 hours later we finally landed in Denpasar. Continue reading…
