We arrived in Battambang, Cambodia’s second largest city and our residence for the next 3 nights. This is the last leg of our holidays before returning to Phnom Penh for our last night.

We stayed at the Battambang resort, a hotel owned by a Dutchman and his Cambodian wife. It was located a bit outside the centre, but with a tuk tuk ride, it was only a few minutes. The rooms were located in the garden, they were spacious and well appointed. The pool was quite large and there were more than enough sunbeds. We first had lunch at the restaurant and then we enjoyed the pool.

We were indecisive whether we would go to the city centre for dinner or if we would just stay at the resort and have a quiet evening instead. The menu looked good and the lunch we had earlier was certainly okay.

In the end we decided to have dinner in the city centre. Because our hotel was not in the town, they had their own tuk-tuk shuttle service. At 6.30pm and back 9.15pm We saw very few tuk tuks which we really had not expected!

Our hotel was not in the centre, they had set up their own tuk tuk shuttle service for which we had to register. We left the hotel at 6.30pm and had to be at the pick-up location at 9.15pm.

We had checked Tripadvisor and found that one of the best restaurants was “Jaan Bai”, so we had made reservations. Everyone was sitting outside on the terrace, but there were so many mosquitoes that we preferred the inside. We were the first guests, so it was easy to get some photo’s of the place. We were happy that we could share plates, because that way we could taste different things and that was what we love.

Our selection, which turned out the be perfect, was : dim sums with eggplant and mushrooms, squid and bao buns. The dessert was really top “lime cheesecake”.

Afterwards we saw that Miss Wong had also opened a cocktail bar not so far from the restaurant, so we decided to end our evening on the town there. As in Siem Reap, the decor of the bar was beautiful.

On our way back to the tuk tuk, we walked along the Battambang Pub Street which was very calm that evening. We then walked back via the night market.

Our transportation was well on time and together with some other guests we were driven back to the resort. We were a bit tired so we decided to have an early night because tomorrow we had to get up early for a tour of the city, including the visiting of a number of crafts.
