Last day in Singapore

Last day in Singapore. We were going to miss it so much. Singapore was truly a “hot” city. We walked for the last time along the underground connecting roads through the shopping malls via the Helix bridge to The Shoppes. We visited the Red Dot Museum at the end of the esplanade. It is a museum about innovations of everyday objects.

After that, we took a stroll past all the boutiques and we ended up in the food court…again. We had noticed before a very popular Tea Shop “R&B” with long queues for takeaway drinks. We decided that we should give it a try so we ordered two fruit teas. One devil’s booster with orange for Koen and a pineapple blossom for me. I also got a few dim sums to eat with it. On our way out of the foodcourt, my eyes fell again on the same tea stand and I could not resist trying the Brown Sugar Boba Milk with cheese bruleé. So glad that I did, it was the best drink that I had during my entire stay ! It was a kind of milk drink with pearls of brown sugar. So yummy ! I think it should be imported in Belgium!

We then walked back to the hotel for a quick swim after which we packed our bags. We took a taxi to Changi airport and explored Jewel… This could be a day trip in itself. So amazing ! The perfect end of a perfect trip…

Bye bye Singapore

What do we remember from our trip ?

  • The beauty of the city, the cleanliness and generally good signage posts for tourists
  • The heat, which we got used to after a while
  • People are always dressed very nicely here. Women wear a lot more dresses than in Belgium (I guess that this is probably due to the climate)
  • I was amazed in Kyoto where I thought there was 1 shop per inhabitant … here there must be at least 3
  • So many luxury brands in the high end shopping centers. Shop till you drop is a saying that according to me originated in Singapore
  • It is a city where people feel 100% safe at all hours of the day!
  • The longest queues are for the best food and beverage outlets (not necessarily the most expensive), sometimes you have to exercise a lot of patience but it’s worth it
  • Public transport is very well organised
  • Eating and drinking in the better restaurants and bars is not cheap (especially alcoholic drinks) but there are so many cheap and tasty alternatives: food courts and hawker centers where the ordinary Singaporeans eat and those are very affordable. (For 4-10 EUR you can eat very well). At the same time, there is so much choice !!!
  • Chilli crab or black pepper crab is super tasty if you want to splurge!
  • The best visits were certainly the entire Marina Bay Sand area with the rooftop bar of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, the 2 domes, ArtScience museum, the Gardens by the Bay and of course The Shoppes.
  • The nicest walk was the Southern Ridges’ one
  • High tea at the Raffles Hotel is something we will never forget !

All in all, it was an incredible trip, we will be back to this green city and foodie paradise !
