Background of our trip to the United Arab Emirates
All good things come in threes they say, so we were going to celebrate our 50th birthdays for the third and last time this year. Now with a trip to the United Arab Emirates, i.e Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This time Koen’s daughter Maxine was joining us.
The sun would certainly be accompanying us and the heat as well. 35 Degrees during the day and 27 degrees in the evening… great ! Luckily that there was also air conditioning. But that meant that we had to take enough medication with us for possible colds.
The list of excursions had been prepared. Some of the tourist attractions I had already visited 9 years ago like the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the Burj Khalifa. I was wondering if much had changed in the meantime.
We were curious if camel burgers were as tasty as regular burgers and if a cappuccino would be very different from a camelccino. In the Emirates Palace we could apparently drink a cup of coffee with gold leaves …
Two things we were certainly looking forward to, were the visits of the Louvre and Qasr al Watan Palace & Garden. The Guggenheim, on the other hand, had been slightly delayed. 9 Years ago I had seen the plans of the two museums and I was very surprised that it took so long to start the works. Maybe the oil dollars had run out …
Our Emirates flight to Dubai was leaving tonight. Tomorrow morning we had to catch a taxi to Abu Dhabi where we were going to spend our first 4 nights. Then, back to Dubai for our 4 final nights.
Let the holiday begin… continue reading…
