Background Cambodia trip
Just before the lockdown due to Corona, we were visiting Asia, more in particular Cambodia. At first we thought to combine it with Vietnam but after having read a lot of trip reports and blogs, we found that there was too much to see in both countries and that they both deserved a separate visit. We decided to discover Cambodia first, because one of my colleagues of work was temporarily living there. So it was also an opportunity to visit her.
We had to make some serious cuts in the list of places to visit because we only had 3 weeks and did not want to change destination each day. We regretfully dropped the elephants and dolphin encounters this time… a difficult decision since the majority of our travels are inspired by wildlife or food… Ok the food we would definitely have… 🙂
This journey contained a substantial portion of culture and history (visiting temples, the palace, the killing fields, …). But we still managed to balance it with a good portion of nature.
We were very much looking forward to the culinary part of our trip. One of the delicacies in Cambodia turned out to be fried tarantula. I could hardly wait ….. to take a picture :-).
During our vacation, it was the dry season and the temperature was hovering around 33 degrees (which apparently was still the pleasant period). For me 25 is already a lot, so you can imagine how I struggled from time to time.
There were also many Belgians, French and Dutch who had started a hotel or other business over there. We were going to stay there or visit a number of them.
3 weeks in Cambodia – Itinerary
Our itinerary ? We were flying from Brussels through Bangkok to Phnom Penh. Then direction Kep, Kampot and the Cardamom Mountains (tented camp). From there on we would travel via Phnom Penh to Kampong Thom, Sambor Prei Kuk, Siem Reap & Angkor Wat Archeological Site and Battambang to end the holiday back in Phnom Penh.

It sounds like we may have been in Cambodia at around the same time. I was also there for a short trip in early February 2020. Regrettably I was only able to visit for 5 days so did not see nearly as much as you did. Glad I found your blog!
Cambodia was great and for me unexpected, so it was a good surprise ! I am new on WordPress…still discovering the blogs :-). Loved yours !
