Our Journey
Our next journey was about to start. This time we had decided to fly to Central America where we would (re)discover the fauna and flora of Costa Rica. It was as good as certain that there would be rain, that was normal when travelling to a rainforest area. But hopefully we would be able to greet the sun every now and then.
We left immediately after work by train to Schiphol, where we were staying for one night in the CitizenM hotel. We had chosen that hotel because it was conveniently located at walking distance from the airport.
The coaches from the Thalys arrived differently from what we were expecting, so we had to run with our luggage from one side to the other side of the platform. Completely exhausted, we got on the train. Lucky for us, we had bought some comfort food, sushi’s !
The check in in the hotel was fast. The room was not very big but more than sufficient for one night. The view was spectacular because we could see the planes from our bed.
The next morning I got up with pain in my back. I already felt it the day before, but I had hoped for the best… I decided to try out one of the massage seats at the airport. My goodness, it felt like a torture device. But apparently it had some effect because the pain was less than before so I kept my fingers crossed.
We had to change planes in Panama but for the rest everything went smoothly.
There was a bit of a queue for the passport control in San José so it took us 1 hour to get to the exit where our taxi was waiting. We had arranged all our transfers between cities and hotels through a local service provider that we had found through Tripadvisor (CRS Tours). We were very happy with the services provided, from the first contact until the drop-off at the airport the last day.
Arrival in San José
Our first night was in downtown San José, in the Presidente Hotel. The Hotel Lobby was very nicely decorated and the rooms were very spacious. Upon arrival we went to the roof terrace to celebrate the start of our holiday. We did not make it very late since the next day our transfer to Tortuguero had been scheduled very early, i.e. 6.35am.
Our 10 days in Costa Rica Itinerary
Via Panama to San José, 2 days in Tortuguero, 2 days in Arenal, 3 days in Monteverde, 2 days in Manuel Antonio and then back to Brussels via Amsterdam.
